ODPOAC Labor Day Weekend Show Update!

Our open show on Labor Day weekend at Penmerryl Farm in Greenville, VA is looking to be one our largest in years!  We hope you will join us for what we hope will be a very enjoyable way to spend the holiday.

Class lists and other information are available on this site under Events. Pre-entries (if you would like the pre-entry rate) are due to me by Wed. August 27.  You are welcome to fax them to Brad Jarvis’ attention at 540-948-6883 or email them to kris.jarvis@comcast.net  Payment can be made at the conclusion of the show. My mailing address is 447 Tinsley Dr. Radiant, VA 22732  If you have any questions, it’s best to call or text me at 540-717-2273.

Stall reservations can be made directly with Deanie at Penmerryl at 540-292-0897.  I believe rooms are all taken, but camping is allowed.  Their website is http://penmerrylfarm.com/

We’re excited that the Rockbridge County bluegrass band, Solid Line, will be playing for us Saturday evening.  A chuck wagon stew (beef or vegetarian) will be available for $5.00 per person and folks are certainly welcome to contribute drinks, desserts, snacks etc. Please contact me with your number of people, if you plan to participate in the Sat. night dinner.  If you’re a musician, you are welcome to join the jam.

Again, we look forward to seeing you soon.

An update from the President....

All ODPOAC officers need to be both state and national organization paid members.  All ODPOAC board members need to be members of the state group.  If you still need to join ODPOAC for 2014, a membership form is on the website.  After about 30 more days, we will assume you are no longer interested in which case we will of course keep you in the show announcement loop, but won’t necessarily feel obligated to seek your input on club matters. (For some of you perhaps that’s a relief!)

Saturdays show went great!  We had a nice turnout, and hopefully ended up in the black.  Everyone enjoyed chilling on Sunday.  The group took a trail ride, practiced drill team maneuvers, and several of the kids enjoyed playing on the Penmerryl’s revamped cross country course.  It was so ironic  that Chief added nutrient pollution to the water jump, when I work all week to prevent such.

We are working toward another fun time at our 2 day show Sat. Aug. 30 and Sun. Aug. 31.  I’m hoping to arrange a chuck wagon dinner and bluegrass jam Sat. night. I know many of you are musicians and hope you will join us.

We are also continuing to work on an autumn trail ride.  If you have a location to suggest that has both horse trails and stalls and/or horse camping facilities nearby, please let me know.

At this point, those of us who were at last weekend’s show, decided not pursue a Thanksgiving time show, due to a variety of reasons, with staffing and funding being major.  If anyone is willing to put together a show committee to host something in VA, again, please let me know ASAP, as approval would be due shortly.

Please contact me if you have any questions and have a lovely day.

ODPOAC Members in the news!

Brisk weather was not a deterrent to the hundreds who came out to celebrate the ‘Old Fashioned
Holiday on the Farm’ at Frying Pan Farm Park on Dec. 7. Among them, supporting the POA breed, was the Ampeh family!
